Prepping for Zoom Pilates Classes

Congratulations on signing up for Virtual Pilates Classes! And if you didn’t, it’s great that you’re exploring this avenue. Not everyone has the means to travel to a Pilates Studio. Read the tips below so you can avoid annoying technical difficulties and you’re ready to move with peace of mind.

Your Room

  • Lay a Pilates or Yoga mat out on the floor of your home/office. Place it somewhere that you can do snow angles; somewhere with space to move.
  • Have any props handy that you’re interested in using (e.g. fitness circle, stability ball).
  • You might want to set the mood by lighting some candles, dimming your overhead lights, and/or having some calming essential oils diffusing nearby.

Tech

  • Download Zoom well before your class so you can have peace of mind on the day of your first Virtual Pilates practice!
  • Ensure that you have a good internet connection. If your wifi is spotty, think of using an ethernet cord (these can connect to laptops and desktops). If you’re on your phone/tablet and your connection is spotty, try putting your other devices on airplane mode.
  • Your Pilates Instructor (that’s me if you’re taking classes with Pilates Colours!) will text or email you a Zoom link (depending on your communication preference). Just click on the link 5 minutes before class! You’ll be redirected to a Zoom webpage which asks you if you’d like to open the Zoom App. Just click Yes!
  • Now you’re in your Virtual Pilates Class! Turn your mic and video on if it’s a Private or Duo Pilates class, but you can leave them off it’s a Virtual Company/Group Class. If there are only 4 people in your group though, you may want to take advantage of the small group, and turn your cam on for Instructor Feedback! Depending on the Pilates Studio that you go with, the Instructor will be observing your movements (which I love!) or they will be practicing and speaking, unable to see you.
  • Lastly, enjoy your Pilates Class! Remember to come on time or just before so you’re ready to get moving. Congratulations on dedication 50-60 minutes on your mental and physical health!
